2018 DFW Homeless Count
Devote[D] Foundation was beyond excited to participate in the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance’s 2018 Homeless Count for the DFW area. Upon arrival, you sign in, and grab your route from other volunteers. Routes are distributed on a first come first serve basis, so if you're interested in volunteering next year then you should definitely arrive early. Our group was assigned a route in Grand Prairie, TX and we struggled to come across any of our friends. Although we were sad that we weren’t able to conduct interviews and interact with our friends we are beyond grateful to know that the locations where our friends are setting up their living quarters is decreasing.
Devote[D] Foundation provides resources for our friends in their current environment as a reminder that someone is in their corner rooting for them and reminding them that their current circumstances do not define who they are or where they are going. In everyone’s life there is always more to come if you continue to press forward and that is exactly what we want for our friends. We hope to get as many people off of the streets as possible and connecting with other organizations with the same missions only pushes us closer to that goal!
We can’t wait until March to see the numbers from the count. We hope that they are much better than 2017’s but either way we will continue to remind our friends that they are loved and work even harder to provide opportunity for them to turn their life around.
